United Methodist Temple
Traditional Worship begins at 8:45 a.m., followed by Sunday school for all ages at 10 and contemporary worship at 11.
Join us for our new “Spring into Summer Festival” from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 31. We will have live entertainment, Classic Car Show, Puppet shows for the children, food booths, catfish dinner, ice cream, games for all ages, pie-baking contest, country store, and much, much more.
Pastor Alan Rumble will preach from the book of Matthew 6:24-35 titled “Worry, Worry, Worry.” Rumble will present the children’s message. Kids Own Worship is a worship program for children age 4 through third grade. Children will be dismissed from the sanctuary after the message to attend Kids Own Worship.
Child care will be provided in the nursery for both worship services and Sunday school.
We are collecting food to assist the families, of the 14th and Chestnut Community Center. All donations may be dropped off in the Narthex in the barrels.

Berean Baptist
The 9:30 Bible Study hour this week features Lauren Lopez teaching the Junior Class; the Teen Class studying at McDonald’s after leaving the church at 9:20 with Pelo and Heather coordinating the class and material produced by John Thompson.
Dick Triestram will teach the adult class in the auditorium of the church, bringing a lesson this week titled, “Enemies of Wisdom.” This lesson gives great insight into relations with people when doing or giving some kind of help is involved. The teaching goes against modern “wisdom” but when followed, it saves much grief.
The 10:30 Worship Hour features a great musical program as we pay homage to the ultimate sacrifices of men and women in past and the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pastor Larry Lilly’s sermon is titled, “Freedom’s Terrible Price.” This sermon will deal with the valor of Americans throughout our history in protecting the folks at home. Larry will note the influence of Christ in this valor. Larry will use the Bible and reference Colin Powell’s statement about what America has charged countries the United States has liberated over the years of our history.
Dick and Judy Triestram will have a gospel illustration for the Integrated Worship Time.
The Sounds of Victory, the Berean congregation and Charlie Davis will present special music.
The evening service will be conducted in the homes.

Maple Avenue United Methodist Church
Worship services will be at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Monty Barker invites you to hear a message titled “What is Worry Worth?” where we will take an in-depth look at Scriptures Matthew 6:24-34. Favorite hymns as well as contemporary praise choruses will be sung. At the 10:30 a.m. service, the children’s sermon will be given and the chancel choir will sing an anthem. Adult Sunday school fellowship is at 9:30 a.m. and the Children’s Sunday school will meet during the 10:30 a.m. service. Nursery care is provided during the 10:30 a.m. service in our beautiful nursery.
The youth group will meet 4 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesday with youth leaders Rich and Melissa Nail. Our group is made up of middle- and high-school students and is geared toward mission work all while having a great time. Join us for weekly devotionals and fellowship in our awesome gym.
Maple Avenue will host auditions for the summer production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” from 5 to 7 p.m. June 7 and 2 to 4 p.m. June 8. The show dates are as follows: Sept. 5-7. We are looking for about 35 to 40 people. Be prepared to sing a little, dance a little and do a short dramatic reading. Directors for this production will be Dan Rodriguez, Josh Hoffman and Cozette Miller. Call the church with any questions.

The church is sponsoring a benefit pancake breakfast and silent auction on May 31 at the Sandcut Fire Department. The breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to noon. Sunday’s Christian Education topic will be “Unction: Sacrament of Christian Hope,” led by the Rev. Chuck Ellestad, retired priest from Church of the Ascension, Frankfort, Ky. Adult Christian Education is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in Taylor Hall.
Ellestad also will be celebrant for Holy Eucharist, Rite II, which begins at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Ellestad retired in 2006 as rector of the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort after serving more than 16 years there. Even though retired from the Church of the Ascension, Ellestad continues to be active in the ministry, serving as priest-in-charge of St. Joseph’s mission, a nursing home ministry in Lawrenceburg, Ky. He also is employed by Hospice of the Bluegrass as a stipendiary chaplain from the Frankfort office. In addition, Ellestad serves as priest “pro tempore” (when he’s not at St. George’s) of St. Hubert’s Episcopal Church in Clark County, Ky., diocese of Lexington.
Ellestad has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; a master’s degree in religion from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia; and a master’s degee from Nashotah House in Wisconsin.
Coffee hour with food and fellowship will be in Taylor Hall after the church service about 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend all services.

Oregon Baptist Church
A special memorial service honoring our military personnel, both past and present, will be presented during regular church services at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 will give instructions about the flag and present one to the church. Veterans and active servicemen and women will be recognized while the Armed Forces medley is being played by our organist and pianist. The Rev. Fred Harrison, pastor, will speak on “The Glory of the Lord,” with Scripture reading from the 14th chapter of Revelations.

Community UMC
Traditional worship is at 8 a.m. Sunday in the chapel, with Sunday school at 9 and Celebration of Worship at 10.
Pastor Frank will preach on “Remembering a Friend,” from John 15:9-17, as we celebrate Memorial Day by remembering those near and dear to our hearts who are no longer physically with us.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study is at 10. We continue our journey through the Gospel of Matthew. This study is open to anyone in the community.
Wednesday Evening Bible Study: Pastor Frank leads a small group study on Max Lucado’s book “He Chose the Nails.” We will study Chapter 15, (What Will You Leave at the Cross?), this week. If you are interested in participating, we invite you to show up and participate in our discussion. A book is not necessary to have. We read the chapter during the study. Child care is provided.
At 10 a.m. every Wednesday, there is a chapel service for Stepping Stones Child Development Center, however, it is open to the public.
The HEATT (Highly Energized Anointed Teen & Tweens) Youth Group meets the first, second and third Sundays of each month. The first Sunday we meet at the church for a group lesson with snacks. We go to the Light House Mission on the second Sunday of each month to serve the residents dinner. On the third Sunday, we do something fun as a group. First Congregational Church
On Memorial Day Sunday, the Rev. Donald Mullen will preach on the topic “Lest We Forget.” Services are at 8:30 and 10:30, with a staffed nursery during the 10:30 service. As First Congregational Church prepares to celebrate its 175th Anniversary throughout 2009, we work to remember the remarkable men and women who gave so many years of service to the building and growth of this church. A traditional service is at 9 a.m. and an informal service at 11:15. The Rev. Bernie Jackson’s sermon topic for this Sunday is “Keepers of the Mystery,” with Scripture text from I Corinthians 4:1-5. Music at the first service will be provided by The Sanctuary Choir and First Baptist Orchestra. Trumpet soloist Joshua White will provide special music at the second service. The 9 a.m. service will include the annual Memorial Day remembrance honoring those members of the congregation who have died during the last year. Both the services will include an appropriate Memorial Day tribute. Children’s church is available during the 9 a.m. service for children in grades K-3 and a children’s story is included as a part of both worship services. Sunday school, with classes for all ages, is at 10:15 a.m. and pre-school Sunday school and child care is available throughout the morning. There will be no evening service or programs this week.

At 8 a.m. Sunday, Partners in Prayer meet in the chapel with the pastor to pray for his work with the church and for his personal and professional needs.
At 8:45, the traditional service begins. Scripture will be II Corinthians 4:16-18. The Rev. Scott Johnson’s sermon will be “A Lesson From Ralph DePalma.” “Never give Up!” That is a lesson that is encouraging and frightening, hopeful and heartbreaking, determined and disheartening, but it is a lesson from DePalma. From 9:45 to 10 a.m. is fellowship and coffee time.
At 10 a.m. is Sunday school for all ages. The children’s lesson will be “Shipwrecked,” Acts 27-28.
