Christian Education is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in Taylor Hall. Stichweh always opens new doors of thought and sometimes challenges the often long-held Scriptural interpretations of those attending.
Stichweh, who retired to downtown Indianapolis in 2005 after “semi-retirement” in Florida, also will be celebrant for Holy Eucharist, Rite II, at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.
After having served most of his ministry as a parish priest and headmaster in New York City, Stichweh moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1995 and accepted the invitation of the Bishop of Central Florida to be part-time priest-in-charge at St. Matthias Church in Clermont, Fla. The church increased in size and a larger building was needed, as was a full-time priest. Stichweh then fully retired and moved to downtown Indianapolis.

The lively discussion will center on the idea that what we perceive as our greatest obstacles are often God’s greatest opportunities for our lives. Join us for this relaxed and dynamic discussion.
As First Congregational prepares for celebration of its 175th anniversary, the congregation and the community are learning about the early history of those Terre Haute citizens and ministers who, with God’s grace, built an active religious community in western Indiana. The Rev. Lyman Abbott, First Congregational Church’s second minister, served the congregation during the critical Civil War years and was an active voice for the end of slavery in the country. Abbott’s sermon on the dangers of the newly begun War Between the States was printed in its entirety on the front page of the Dec. 9, 1860 issue of the Wabash Express.
