Opening week was a fun one for FCS teams

TERRE HAUTE — The college football season officially is under way and FCS teams had some fun against BCS opponents.

Six FCS teams knocked off BCS foes in the first full week of competition.

Eastern Illinois was one of the winners, beating San Diego State 40-19. Taylor Duncan of Marshall ran the football 20 times, netting 94 yards with a long gainer of 45 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Eastern Washington was a 49-46 winner over Oregon State. Vernon Adams completed 23 of 30 passes for 411 yards and four touchdowns for what should have been the individual effort of the week.

In other games, North Dakota State was a 24-21 winner over Kansas State, Northern Iowa bested Iowa State 28-20, Towson beat Connecticut 33-18 and McNeese State stopped South Florida 53-21.

In another game, Boise State lost to Washington 38-6. And in another one, Illinois edged Southern Illinois 42-34.

Checking out the scores, if you think the Missouri Valley Football Conference will be one of the best in FCS again, you’re right.
