A few words of wisdom for this Christmas season

TERRE HAUTE — Tis the day before Christmas, a day set aside for observing the birth of Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas to you all and your loved ones.

We'll take this time to publish some words of wisdom from one of the cards sent our way – this person is No. 1 among card senders in our book. To wit:

n Be nice. Be honest. Work hard.. Make good choices.

9. Discipline yourself to save money on even the most modest salary.

10. Treat everyone you meet like you want to be treated.

13. Understand that happiness is not based on possessions, power or prestige but on relationships with people you love and respect.

14. Be loyal.

15. Be honest.

16. Be a self-starter.

17. Be decisive even if it means you'll sometimes be wrong.

18. Stop blaming others. Take responsibility for every area of your life.

19. Be bold and courageous. When you look back on your life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did.

Tom-Cattin' It – The New York Yankees had the highest average salary in baseball for the 15th consecutive season at $8.17 million while the Houston Astros had the lowest since 1999 at $549,603.

n Derek Drouin, Indiana University high jumper, won the Bowerman Trophy, the highest honor given in college track and field.

n In case you missed it, Bowling Green hired Dino Babers as its new football coach. Babers had a 19-7 mark in two seasons at Eastern Illinois. The Panthers were 12-2 this season.

They lost to Towson in the playoffs. Towson will battle North Dakota State in the championship game in January.

n J. R. Smith of the New  York Knicks recently set a team record with 17 3-point shots. He hit five.

n Notre Dame has lost top scorer Jerian Grant, who has left school due to an academic issue. He was averaging 19 points and 6. 2 assists for the Irish.

n Fans should expect to see some great games in the Pizza Hut Wabash Valley Classic beginning Thursday at Terre Haute North.
