RAMBLIN' RECK: Brickyard 400 a hot item on this week’s racing schedule


TERRE HAUTE — Tom-Cattin’ It -- Sharon Rosenburgh has retired as the girls tennis coach at Carmel where her team won the fifth state title in her tenure this year.

The Indiana State grad had been the coach since 1979 at Carmel after a short stint at Avon  and compiled a 519-80 mark.

Terre Haute South grad Jordan Kelsey will play college tennis at IU-Southeast.

• Terre Haute North and University of Southern Indiana grad Rob Roads is the new cross country coach at Rising Sun. He had the same position at Vincennes Rivet last year.

• Former Terre Haute resident Justin Dooley, who now lives in Alabama, will have the chance to see the sights in Italy and play some hoops in that country as part of a Global Sports Academy team. He is one of 10 NCAA Division II and III players to be chosen for the team that will be coached by Bill Leahy of Widener, Pa.

Dooley will be a freshman at Huntingdon College in Alabama.

• Slippery Rock will be in town to play The Rex this week in baseball. Paul Lueken is the athletic director at the school in the city. He and Jon Prevo were  two players on the Marshall (Ill.) team that reached the basketball sectional finals in 1979.

 • Russ Campbell of Rockville played in the two-man event at Geneva Hills after returning from a trip to Scotland where he had a chance to play on some of the oldest golf courses in the world.

• The U. S. Navy has given approval for the Carrier Classic basketball game between North Carolina and Michigan State to be played on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson on Veterans Day.
