This recent terrorist scare lit up the maps in the television newsrooms like a pinball machine. The problem is simple … there are more young men in the Muslim countries of the world between the ages of 18 and 35 and they have nothing to do. These young men fall prey to terrorist activity and recruiting because they are not well educated and they believe the argument that the west is to blame for all of their problems.
Their true problem is a lack of jobs caused by a lack of education. Memorizing the Koran is not a solution to a better way of life. Since religion and politics in the Arab world is one and the same, you can’t fix one without turning aside the other.
So, with no jobs, or even a hope of jobs, these young Arab men, 18-35, grab an AK-47 and stand up and shout, “Down with the devil Americans, down with the infidels.” It doesn’t take much training, if any at all, to learn to fire the AK-47. That’s why it’s the choice of all terrorists. A monkey can be trained to shoot an AK-47.
Even though Osama bin Laden is gone, the leadership of Al-Qaeda has been wracked by assassination and death, the recruitment has not slowed down. It is easy to understand. With no hope, no future to look forward to, these men, who are willing to die for Allah, will just keep on doing that very thing.
We, the Western world, need help from the moderate Muslim nations. That word, moderate is becoming more difficult to find in the Muslim religion, education and government.
So I say to our leaders, the do-nothing Congress, the hog-tied Senate, and the impossible administration, what are you going to do? Your choices are getting fewer and fewer.
It’s obvious a limited military action is not going to work. Iraq is a mess, Afghanistan will be falling back on its tribal leadership, and the difficulty of defeating the extremists (those who stand against Western civilization and civilization in general) is becoming a very slim proposition.
Who has the best army in the world? (We do.) Who has the best Air Force in the world? (We actually have the two best, the USAF and the U.S. Naval Air Force). Who has the best black OPS units in the world? (We do.) Then what is the problem?
The problem is you reach a spot in your development in power where it becomes too large to utilize. Boy, that’s something I have no answer for. Still, it remains a serious problem. We could settle back on something I wrote years ago. And that is this … we will have to turn the deserts in all of these countries to glass.
Do I think that’s going to happen? No.
