If you can, please help police

The success of a community’s police force is often directly related to support and involvement from the people it serves.

Area police agencies in the past week have asked for help in the investigations of two specific crimes. The most heinous and tragic is that of the December 2012 homicide of prominent Sullivan County farmer Lowell Badger.

Police believe Badger, 85, was shot and killed during a home invasion and robbery at his rural Sullivan County residence. Among previously undisclosed items taken from his residence by the perpetrator(s) was a heavy safe. Investigators hope that releasing information about the stolen safe will spark new leads in their probe.

Closer to home, Terre Haute authorities have recovered a high-powered, handgun-style BB gun and ammunition they believe were used in a five-day spree in which windows were shot out in 87 parked vehicles last spring. They are hoping the public can help connect the new evidence to possible suspects in the incidents, which occurred all over the city.

If you think you may have information the police might find valuable, we urge you to heed their call for help.

In the Badger homicide, please call the Indiana State Police Putnamville post at 765-653-4114, or the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department at 812-268-4044.

In the Terre Haute vandalism case, call 812-238-1661, Ext. 2667.
