RONN MOTT: Hard Luck

TERRE HAUTE — If you want to know how smart the Tea Party has been, just read the headlines. The Affordable Act has weathered the political storm of Teddy Cruz and his buddies from the U.S. House of Representatives. They fell down and looked really stupid in so doing. All they had to do was wait for the computers to implode, and they did.

This President has had a real run of bad luck. First of all, the health care act is going to give millions of Americans the opportunity to be covered by insurance. So what happens … computers fail and millions do not get on the President’s health care program. The Tea Party and Teddy Cruz have failed miserably in their attempt to wreck the government, the nation and the President’s health care program. They could have sat back and let the computers do it for them. The President must feel as if he has egg on his face.

This President has done a better job with social media and the computer effort than any previous president. But, when he finally hit a bump, wow, what a bump! The experts are saying sometime at the end of November, everything will be hunky dory. The Tea Party and their voodoo dolls have not worked to this point, but hey, you right-wingers, don’t give up. Even a monkey can roll a seven once in a while. I wouldn’t be the President of this country for all the money Grover Norquist is hoarding. It is a thankless job, unless you can get workable majorities in both the House and the Senate. It may be a couple of decades before that will happen again.

You’ve spoken the little prayer for America … “God Bless America.” And, with the Republican governors gerrymandering every district in their states, it may take an act of God to get rid of the morons who litter the aisles of Congress.

There are no statesmen left in the House, just me, me, me, and no, no, no. It’s enough to wear a good man out.

Somehow, some way, America could wake up, but I certainly would not bet on it. The airwaves are full of the hot-air coming from Rush Limbaugh and his ilk. Not a bright spot on the horizon, or common sense, or courtesy, and/or the ability to make compromise.

And even though I rant and rave about it, don’t expect me to be on the ballot. I am much too smart, terribly unpopular with the nabobs who furnish the big money for the right-wing candidates, and I’m way too honest.

Ronn Mott, a longtime radio personality in Terre Haute, writes commentaries for the Tribune-Star. His pieces are published online Tuesday and Thursday on Tribstar.com, and in the print and online editions on Saturday.
