Valiant efforts to save rural church
As a member of First Prairie Creek Baptist Church, I would like to express my appreciation for the valiant efforts made to save our church buildings last week. The weather was very inclement, but the fire departments of Prairieton, Prairie Creek, Farmersburg (Thunderbirds) and Fairbanks, all volunteers, succeeded in controlling the fire in our 138-year old structure so that it did not completely destroy the attached new structure.
Thanks also to the many other churches and friends in the community for their kindness to support us. God bless you all.

Dec. 7 should be remembered
We appreciated Liz Ciancone’s Dec. 10 column titled “Important date passes by without much notice.” We also were disappointed to see no mention on Dec. 7 of this date in our nation’s history in our newspaper.
We did find an article the next day about Pearl Harbor on page A6. We wholeheartedly agree when Liz also mentioned she “was disappointed that the Pentagon opted to save money by eliminating the traditional flight over the memorial at Pearl Harbor.” This seems like such disrespect to those who fought, lost their lives or were injured defending our great country. We should never forget or ignore this day and our veterans.
