EDITORIAL: Noteworthy in the news (Honors for outstanding women)

TERRE HAUTE — Honors for outstanding women

In its three years of existence, the Women of Influence program, a project of United Way of the Wabash Valley, has recognized 30 women for their valuable and inspired contributions to their communities.

Last week, the most recent class was honored in an event at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. The packed house in O’Shaugnessy Hall in Providence Center showed its appreciation for these Women of Influence whose community involvement, dedication, caring and skill help make the Wabash Valley a better place to live and work.

We offer our congratulations to the 12 women honored this year as Women of Influence. They set a high standard of citizenship and an inspiring example of involvement to which more people will now undoubtedly aspire.

Sprucing up around the wetlands

We tip our hats to all the volunteers who converged on Saturday in the area of the Wabashiki wetlands to help clean up litter along the U.S. 40 corridor near West Terre Haute.

As the new wetlands trail and park become more popular with residents and visitors, the appearance of the wetlands and surrounding area will be important for building a positive community image. Efforts such as Saturday’s cleanup will help advance that cause.

You can say that again

“If Citizens United opened a door, today’s decision we fear will open a floodgate.”
