RONN MOTT: Oh Happy Day!

---- — If what I read is true, there will be Twinkies for you to munch into sometime this summer. And if that doesn’t make you smile, perhaps the plan to have Ding Dongs and Ho Ho’s also back to fill your sweet tooth and shock your calorie counter.

This was announced by the Hostess Co. that has gone bankrupt rather than give their employees a raise. The products were very popular. It is the greed factor that makes many companies stop … my guess is it was the same with Hostess.

On the other side of the page, Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Tacos are filling more bellies than anybody would have guessed. According to the fast-food chain, they sold 372 million of these tacos that come in a shell that taste like Doritos’ chips. That’s selling more than a million per day. The company had to add 15,000 jobs to handle the growth.

Not sitting on their laurels, they’re adding a cool-ranch taco to go with their Doritos’ taco, and whoever had the idea of having a Doritos taste-alike taco should have been given a huge raise in pay. I’m not sure that I care very much about the strange-tasting new success, but maybe I’ll try one just to see how my taste buds and the Doritos Locos Tacos get along.

Information on this subject came from the Associated Press and the, which is the Newsweek Magazine online. (I still miss the printed magazine.)

The success of this new taco, and the money it has made for the company, shows there are always opportunities for new ideas and a shift in marketing. No wonder people are standing in line just to get into this country. It still shines as an example of golden opportunity.
