Support for a lifelong servant

I am writing this letter in support of Norm Loudermilk for Harrison Township assessor. I have known Norm for over 30 years. In this time Norm has bravely served our country as a United States Marine and a member of the Indiana Army National Guard. Norm also has served the city of Terre Haute as a police officer, firefighter and a city councilman.

Norm has been selected police officer of the year and firefighter of the year. Norm Loudermilk has a track record of serving with distinction and not afraid to ask the tough questions. The job of assessor is very crucial in the tough economic times we have now. We need someone who is not afraid to make tough decisions and one who can handle a large job.

The ability to think critically and fairly are also qualities needed in public service, and Norm Loudermilk has both qualities as strengths. The job of the Harrison Township assessor is to accurately and fairly assess value of the property in Harrison Township. This has lasting implications into how much money is used for services we all rely on.

The job of assessor is not a cushy, do-nothing job. We need someone who has a proven track record of being able to handle large jobs and excel in the quality of the work done.

Norm has shown dedication by preparing himself for the assessor’s office by attending training and classroom work for the past five months to become a professional assessor. He was recently awarded the Indiana State Certified Level III Assessor Title, one of only three in all of Vigo County.

Norm has spent most of his life serving his country and his local community, and I urge that you cast your vote for Norm Loudermilk in the Harrison Township assessor election.

Candidate ready for next level

Having been an active lawyer since 1966, I have had the opportunity to observe fellow lawyers. Lawyers practice their skills in and out of the numerous Indiana and federal courts.

During the eight years that I served as the elected judge of Vigo Superior Court Division 4, attorney John A. Kesler II appeared as counsel for numerous clients. He was well prepared and skillfully represented his clients. My term ended Dec. 31, 2004, when I chose not to seek re-election.

Subsequently, I was a contract public defender in the City Court of Terre Haute for approximately seven years. My fellow public defender was John A. Kesler II.

City Court is a very busy court. Thursday of every week, except holidays, was the day scheduled for public defenders and their many clients.

John and I shared the same long table in court as we met with our clients and witnesses.

John A. Kesler II exhibited remarkable ability in representing his clients.

Having observed John A. Kesler II “working in the trenches” as a practicing attorney, I am of the opinion that he is ready for his next challenge: Judge of Vigo Superior Court Division 2.

I, without hesitation, endorse John A. Kesler II as the Democrat nominee in the Vigo County Primary on May 6, for the office of Judge, Vigo Superior Court Division 2.

Perspectives in politics

Recently, a Mr. Edward Kesler opened Pandora’s Political Box and gave us his GOP viewpoint on the terrible and devastating actions of the Democrats.

Not unsurprisingly, he did not mention any of the terrible and devastating actions of the Republicans.

These would include, but not limited to, two wars, one totally unnecessary and not paid for; the biggest recession/depression since the early ’30s; millions of jobs lost; massive mortgage fraud; the collapse of Wall Street; and millions of taxpaper money (TARP) to bail out the banks that perpetrated the mortgage fraud.

Mr. Kesler has already given you the negatives on the Democrats, so here are the positives they have given to us: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, labor laws, workers’ rights, voters’ rights, regulations on Wall Street and the banks, and women’s rights.

The GOP fought tooth and toenail against all of the above, and is working to abolish them yet today.
