RONN MOTT: Bits & Pieces

I don’t know about you, but I get a total sense of helplessness when I realize 239 people died in one airplane crash. And to make it worse, if that is possible, the loved ones left behind can’t close. Maybe this week.

Hi-99 said goodbye to Diane Orpurt and, of course, there is no explanation for the listener or audience at large, or the plain, old public. I don’t get it. Diane had very good ratings and she has been for some time now the best female voice on the radio. Many female announcers, or disc jockeys, have come and gone but Diane was the best of the lot. We wish her well.

The Ukraine crisis seems to have calmed down a bit. Putin wanted to make sure the area around his very large Black Sea Naval Base was secure and the way to do it was to take back the Crimea from the Ukraine government. The area has been Russian since the days of the Czars, and the majority of the citizens there not only speak Russian, they voted overwhelmingly to return to Russia. It appears he got what he wanted and he got it without a war. His armed forces slipped in and took over. You’ve got to give the devil his due … no major war, not even a little war, and it is a warning from Putin to other countries of the former Soviet Union … don’t get too cozy with the West … we are not going to be surrounded by armed forces which could be a real problem to Russia.

Spring has sprung, albeit late. There is one, small dandelion growing by my back door. In past years, with a warmer spring, many areas of the yard were covered in them. Even a dandelion would go south if it could. The yard will, I’m sure, pick up in a blaze of yellow and such but right now the one dandelion stands out. Oh, and by the way, speaking of flowers, there are about four little white flowers that normally blanket my backyard this time of year. Not much of a promise of spring, but nonetheless we cannot wait until they cover the ground, especially at Collett Park, because when that happens, you know it is spring.
