North Patriots on the march

The annual autumnal transition from football to basketball is under way, but before the seasons completely change, let’s pause to note that one city team — Terre Haute North Vigo High School — is still very much alive in its quest for a state football championship.

The Patriots last week won their first Class 5A football regional and will compete for an opportunity to play for a state championship when they face Indianapolis Cathedral in the semistate this Friday. North is ranked No. 2 in a statewide poll this week, and Cathedral is ranked No. 5. This Friday’s game will be an epic battle of the titans.

The Patriots and Irish will play at 7 p.m. Friday at a neutral site — Indianapolis Tech High School.

We congratulate North Coach Chris Barrett and his talented team on their inspiring run and wish them well Friday night. Another victory will send them to Lucas Oil Stadium for a championship game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29.

It has been a season to be savored for the Patriots, and the community shares their joy.

Chasing championship in Linton

Speaking of football, let’s not forget that our neighbors to the south in Linton will be cheering on their Miners as they compete for a Class 1A semistate championship Friday at Eastern Hancock. Linton is a perennial powerhouse in its class, but we’re sure for the community it never gets old.

All the best to the Linton Miners in their pursuit of a championship.

You can say that again

“We’re going to have to come up with replacement revenue. To me it’s irresponsible to just say we’re going to abolish another revenue stream without looking at the impact on local government services.”
