RONN MOTT: Obama ‘stubs toe’ — and worse — so far on Affordable Care Act

TERRE HAUTE — Abraham Lincoln, after losing the race for the available Senate seat (National Senate), was asked by a reporter how it felt. Mr. Lincoln said, “I feel like a sixteen-year-old boy who has just run across a field and stubbed his toe on a rock. It hurts too much to laugh and I’m too old to cry.” President Obama has run into a similar situation. He certainly has stubbed his toe on the rock of his administration, The Affordable Care Act.

The tea party showed what it is, and it is the south end of a mule going north, and it showed it rather well trying to burn down the government, the jobs and the billions of dollars it cost us to have it shut down. The tea party doesn’t care about the government, the people or working to make things better. Tea partyers are like spoiled children … if they don’t get their way, they will throw a fit. Teddy Cruz, big mouth out of the Senate that they borrowed, still hasn’t learned to shut up. And the tea party members of the House still haven’t learned their lesson in Civics about how to make a bill into law.  Actually, having Cruz as a spokesperson for the far-right members of the House of Representatives (the tea party), shows they know very little about how to get things done in Washington.

The president had it all in his hands, and he has dropped the ball by making this Affordable Care Act an unworkable situation. The flap regarding holding on to your own insurance and choosing your own doctors, is still not working, and the computer signup is a big mess. And to have it finished and ready to go by the end of this month will be nothing short of a miracle. Talk about stubbing one’s toe … the president has broken his foot on this one.

But you right-wingers who think you’re going to blot out “Obamacare” are wrong. The tide of history is about to sweep it all away. The ordinary working person in America will wake up and see the doctors are making more money than King Midas ever had and will come to the realization that health care for profit is only good for a few. It costs too damn much.

The era of doctors once driving Buicks is gone. They did that because they didn’t want to drive Cadillacs. If they had driven a Cadillac, it would look as if they were making too much money. So, the Buick was called “the doctor’s car.” Not so anymore. Doctors are flocking from all over the world to be here, and the attraction is simply the money … so much more than anywhere in the civilized world. So the president has stubbed his toe with The Affordable Care Act, but it’s not over. The government will have to come to the aid of America’s people because they are suffering under the largest cost in medical care that exists anywhere in the world.

I may not be here when the tide of history washes away these right-wing ideas on how a human being in America should be treated. It would, however, be a good thing to see.
