Lunatic ravings of the far right

I am at a loss for any sound argument to offer as a rebuttal to the ranting that was written on a recent Sunday opinion page. I find it is useless to try to refute someone who has such a distorted view of our president. To insinuate that because President Obama was raised by a Muslim stepfather he is somehow out to destroy our country because he hates it is beyond any type of rational rebuttal.

Also saying that President Obama’s mother hates this country is as close to stupidity as I have read. All of these accusations have no basis in fact. The very fact that a small percentage of Americans actually believe this tripe is somewhat of a mystery to me. Perhaps the one thing that stood out in this letter was the veiled insinuation that to take up arms against the lawfully elected president of our country is some how permissible. Have you lost your mind, Mr. Thiel?

It would appear to me that the majority of voting Americans do not share your narrow-minded view of our president as he has been elected twice. He has about three years left to head our country in a more positive direction than it was headed when he first took office.

I will make one rebuttal on the subject of the Affordable Care Act. If any insurance company doesn’t want to participate, it is because they have discovered that they must abide by guidelines that hurt their bottom line. They will have no choice but to conform and quit selling useless policies to unsuspecting customers. The insurance companies have tried this “scare” tactic before and still millions of people have signed up.

Our illustrious governor has chosen not to expand Medicaid because he wants to appear to be towing the party line, but he is causing undue hardship on the citizens of Indiana. Plus it is a known fact that expanding this system wouldn’t have cost the state of Indiana one dime.

Mr. Thiel says a one-payer system is what the president is after. So what? Social Security is a one-payer system and it works great, so what is there to fear? As another patriot once said, “we have nothing to fear but fear itself.”

Of course, I am neither a welfare recipient nor uneducated when it comes to political discussions, so I am sure Mr. Thiel won’t like my opinion. I will change the subject to interject my opinion of the proposed elimination of the business “inventory tax” which has almost every mayor in the state opposes. The loss of the income from this repeal will fall squarely upon the citizens of Indiana. Just as the right-to-work (for less, it appears) was done to attract businesses to locate in Indiana, the repeal of this type of tax won’t attract anything but low-paying jobs.

I have yet to see a list of companies that have located in Indiana because of the right-to-work legislation.

My parting thoughts on Mr. Thiel’s slanted views are simple. It is a free country and everyone has a right to their opinion. I also have the right to not agree with preposterous rantings of someone who appears to be so uneducated he has tunnel vision where our president is concerned. I didn’t think it was possible to shock me any more with lunatic ravings of the far right, but I was wrong.

Mr. Thiel apparently keeps good company with Rush, Hannity and the rest of the nitwits at Fox News (better known as fake news). Thank goodness future generations of Americans will continue to support our system and elect a president that the majority thinks will advance their ideals and make our country a better place for each of us.

The thing I fear most is that a small percentage of people with conspiracy theories will render our country unable to govern. They will force their far right theories down our throats and hold millions of Americans hostage while they do it.

If you fear reprisal, Mr. Thiel, perhaps suggesting an armed overthrow of our government is the reason. I would want you watched closely and often.

Let IRS take the bullying pledge

I really liked the news article appearing in the March 1 issue of this newspaper alluding to bullying.

Given its propensity to do so, maybe we should force the IRS to take the pledge as well.
