TERRE HAUTE — Caregivers do

very good job

In response to a letter from Sam Wallace:

Recently, I’ve been introduced to the cancer treatment center of Terre Haute, Hux Center, and have noted only good things about the personnel. I’m not an all-out for regular allopathic medicines, therapies or systems, but found this center to be kind, caring, genuine.

Calling medicine applications an industry is not so apt to the caregivers as to the drug manufacturers. There are the folks who make the billions from medicines. We have to rely on them, and for the most part, on their research, taking for granted that they won’t lie when our lives are at stake. But guess again, they do lie. They skew stats all the time to sell their products and from what may be a few good results, without telling us much about definite side-effects.

They say chems may cause side effects but they don’t do long-term studies on so much stuff, maybe because the public has decided it wants treatments now, not 20 years from now.

So we suffer the consequences of impatience or deliberate cover ups.

I do suppose many caregivers make a good deal of money from treating folks. I also think all the supplies of medicines have gone beyond the sky limit. But we need the caregivers, even if they make money beyond our budgets.

For sure, though, when some genuine researcher invents a miracle cure for cancer(s), all of us will use it. Better they should find all the true causes and clean up our environment accordingly. Curing the cause is always better.

Congress should

reassess priorities

I was surprised to learn from the Friends Committee on National Legislation that 37 cents of every dollar we pay in federal income taxes go to pay for current and past wars. At the same time, education, diplomacy and help to the nearly 100 million people living in poverty in this country get only pennies on every dollar.

This has got to change.

Right now, our members of Congress — Rep. Bucshon and Sens. Coats and Donnelly — are hearing from the Pentagon that cutting into their projected spending will be a catastrophe for national security. With so much of our tax dollars already going to military projects, I think that it would be a catastrophe not to reshape our country’s budget to reflect our priorities as a nation.

Congress has an opportunity — but will they take it?

Please contact our representation in Washington and let them know how you feel.
