Elected officials should do jobs

This letter is in regards to the article printed on April 24 and titled “Death certificate delay angers health board.”

First of all, it is the health officials’ responsibilities to take issues such as this into a public forum. It is the public these employees work for. For Dr. Amos to feel there is a “hidden agenda” shows that she is taking her duties personally and not professionally. If she truly “had some issues with some things that have not come in on a timely basis,” I would think she would use these to defend herself for not fulfilling her duties — which is filing a death certificate with the county health department within 72 hours after completion of a death investigation or filing a pending investigation certificate of death before completing the certificate of death, if necessary.

According to the health board complaint, she had been doing neither of these. Instead, she “did not want to go into details” of why she is not completing these certificates in a timely, law-required manner.

Secondly, I am having trouble believing that the Indiana Coroners Association cannot do anything if a coroner is not fulfilling his or her duties. What is the association for if not matters such as this? To me, this says if you get into an elected position, you are able to not perform the duties you were elected for and still get paid. We are able to impeach the president, but not to confront a coroner not performing their job properly?

In this case, I will be running for all elected positions. … It sounds like a heck of a deal.

Graffiti ordinance unjust ‘solution’

Any ordinance enacted by the city, the county or the state for the removal of the graffiti by making the innocent property owner the victim by fining the property owner is clearly and transparently unjust, regardless of its intent.

Accidentally making a bad ordinance is understandable, but deliberately is unconscionable. Unconscionable and a perversion of justice is what this type of ordinance would be.

Nobody wants an ugly looking Terre Haute or ugly looking buildings in Terre Haute, but neither do they want injustice in its ordinances. Mr. Chalos, Mr. Loudermilk, council members and Mayor Bennett, it is time to look very hard and deep for proper solutions to the graffiti problem.

Fining and victimizing the innocent property owner is not the solution. Injustice or an unjust ordinance is never a solution, It merely and unjustly passes the cost on to the innocent someone else.
