---- — Supportive words for principal

I find my self in a quandary as I sit down to compose this letter. I have relatives who are employed by the Vigo County School Corp. and would not want them to be singled out because I expressed my opinions. I trust I still have freedom of speech in this community.

My 35-year teaching career was spent in its entirety in Vigo County. It was my pleasure to have worked for many outstanding administrators. Tops among them were Bert Nelson, Dan Gossage, M. Blakely, J. Church, J. McIntyre, J. Morris and Dallas Kelsey.

This is a letter of support for Mr. Kelsey. It is my opinion and mine only. Imagine my bewilderment when I read in the Tribune-Star that Mr. Kelsey had been moved “in his best interest” as principal at Hoosier Prairie. Mr. Kelsey was a teacher/colleague of mine early in his career and later an interim principal at another school where I taught. I cannot envision a situation where he would not have the children’s best interests first and foremost in his mind. I witnessed him interacting with students, parents and teachers on a daily basis for 10 years. He was always a “stand-up” person in my humble opinion.

I am not privy to personnel issues in the corporation, but it is Hoosier Prairie’s loss and Honey Creek’s gain. Respect is not given but earned, and Dallas earned my respect many years ago. Wishing you the best, Mr. Kelsey.
