Burnita Belle Laybold Hershfield, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in the Exceptional Living Center of Brazil. She was born in Vigo County, on April 19, 1923, to Harry Laybold and Minnie Hall Laybold.
She is survived by one daughter; Cheryl Hershfield Sisson of Fayetteville, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jill Cochran; and one grandson, Benjamin Sisson. Also surviving are three great-grandsons, Peyton, Ethan and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Hershfield, on May 2, 2007; and also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Laybold; and one sister, Joy Harlan.
She was a retired registered nurse and director of nursing at Union Hospital. She was a graduate of Prairie Creek High School, Union Hospital School of Nursing and Indiana State University. In 1989 she was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni from ISU, and was a member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, at 7 p.m. today, with the Rev. Mark Grayless officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Indiana State School of Nursing or Union Hospital, in her memory.
