Ruth Ann Dugger Morris

TERRE HAUTE — Ruth Ann Dugger Morris, 80, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Ruth Ann was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Vigo County, to Georgia Dugger Dickey and Roy Dugger. She was employed at SS Kresge, Virginia Life Insurance Company, and retired from the Vigo County School Corporation, after 26 years of driving a school bus. 

She is survived by her three daughters, Royce Ewing (Gene) of Pittsboro, Deborah Long (Larry) of West Terre Haute, and Julia Groves (Larry) of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Lou Feris (Dean) of Terre Haute, and Jackie Dickey of Oblong, Ill.; four grandchildren, Melissa Ewing of Lebanon, Roger Jett Ewing (Stevie) of Plainfield, Lyle Groves (Amanda Moon) of Columbus, Ohio, and Jordan Groves (Morgan Gipe) of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Ewing and Lauren Ewing, both of Plainfield; and many nieces and nephews. 

She and her husband were instrumental in establishing a Little League Program in Prairieton. She was a 50 year member of the Prairieton Chapter Order of Eastern Star, was a member of Prairieton United Methodist Church, and Wabash Western Riders. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing dominos, and cards. She also enjoyed reading, traveling with friends and family, and spending winters in Florida after retiring. She loved her daughters and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Robert Morris, to whom she was married for 30 years; her son, Phillip Morris; her mother, Georgia Dickey; her father, Roy Dugger; her stepfather, Wesley B. Dickey; her special friend, Max Bentley; and her black Persian cat, Mr. Spooky. 

She resided at Cobblestone Crossing and enjoyed many friends and activities there.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting the donations be made to Cobblestone Crossing, c/o Karen Brimberry, 1850 E. Howard Wayne Blvd, Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with the Rev. Allen McQueen officiating. Calling will be from 5 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Private family burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery.
