New Goshen —
Charles E. Shope Sr., 86, of New Goshen, died at his residence on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012. He was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Farmersburg, to Steve Meadlo and Goldie Hoopingarner Meadlo.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was retired from Public Service Indiana Wabash Generating Station as an electrician after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Terre Haute and he loved to play bluegrass music.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Shope Beauchamp and Jim of Paris, Ill.; one son, Charles E. Shope Jr. and Glenda of Tecumseh; four grandchildren, Paula Beauchamp, Michelle and Matt Smith, Breanne Shope, and Michaela Shope; five great-grandchildren, Kaylea Swinford, Lauren Swinford, Logan Smith, Layne Smith and Lyndsi Smith; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; great-grandson, Colton Hunter Shope; and one sister, Jean Robertson.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 16, 2012, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Angil Harpold officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.
