TERRE HAUTE —
William Wyatt Griffith, 56, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:38 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in the IU Health University Hospital, in Indianapolis. He retired as a pressman for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star due to illness after 20 years of service. He was born June 27, 1956, in Terre Haute, to Wayland S. Griffith and Mary E. Potts Griffith.
Survivors include his companion, Donna Byrley of Terre Haute; two daughters, Starshine Puliafico and her companion, Robert Shifflett of Fruita, Colo., and Melonie Byrley and her companion Joseph Huskisson of Terre Haute; a brother, Thomas Griffith; a sister, Lea Chaplin; and five grandchildren, Angelina, R.J., Nicholas, Lexus, and Kaydence. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Stephen Griffith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid race fan of all types of racing especially Indy cars and the Indianapolis 500, which he always enjoyed attending and had not missed attending many races since his childhood. He was an active member of the Graphic Communications International Union Local 1303, where he had served in various capacities, and he was a member of the Teamsters Union.
There will be visitation only for William which will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in memory of his son, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
