Ernest ‘Herb’ Redman, Jr.

Ernest “Herb” Redman Jr., 92, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Davis Gardens Healthcare Facility. He was retired from the insurance department of General Motors Corporation. Herb was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Fulton County, Ky., to Ernest H. Redman Sr. and Iva Lee Redman.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Grace “Jerri”

Roberts Redman of Terre Haute; a son, Jeff Redman and his wife Barbara of Terre Haute; a daughter, Linda Lance of Indianapolis; a brother, Robert Lee Redman and his wife Ann of Wetumpka, Ala.; a sister, Helen Manier of Peoria, Ill.; five granddaughters, Lori Honer and her husband Gary, Beth Hunley and her husband Tony, Vicki Cloney and her husband Robert, Sarah Redman and Maggie Redman; seven great-grandchildren, Keegan, Xander and Liam Pierson, Mirin and Kieran Cloney, and Ashlynn and Duncan Hunley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Redman, who died in infancy.

Herb was a charter member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent, the chair of finance, board of trustees and was a delegate to the conference for nine years. He also was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Kentucky Colonel, Boy Scout leader, a past member of The American Heart Association, and a veteran of World War II, where he spent three years as a warrant officer in the Army Supply Corps, serving in England, Africa, Italy and France. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar St., with the Revs. Scott Johnson and Jill Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites by VFW Post 972.  Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St.  The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN 47803; or to the charity of your choice.
