Jerry W. Gibbons, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away at 4:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his family. He was born on May 19, 1946, in Clinton, to Warren E. Gibbons and Mildred Hutson Gibbons.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Milwaukee Railroad as an engineer. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 972, American Legion 104, and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two sons, David Magill (Kelly) of Mitchell and Jerry T. Gibbons (Tiffany) of Bedford; four grandchildren, Harley Magill, Macy Sykes, Haley Sykes, and Dakota Sykes; two brothers, Donnie Gibbons (Sharon) of Terre Haute and Greg Gibbons (Dorothy) of St. Bernice; a sister Deborah Taylor of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Garrett Lee officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by VFW 972.
