TERRE HAUTE —
Mary “Margaret” Watson, 85, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, in Signature Health Care of Terre Haute. She retired as an accountant from Standard Register after many years of service. She continued working many years as an advertising agent in sales of advertising merchandise. Her very first job of her career was with Terre Haute Advertising. She was born March 21, 1928, in Elbridge, Ill., to August Earl Archer and Clara Zelia Venable Archer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Alfred Watson Jr., in October of 1962.
Survivors include two sons, David Watson of Terre Haute, and Paul Watson and wife Stardust of West Terre Haute; a brother, Abel Archer of West Terre Haute; three grandsons, Paul Watson III, Abel Watson, and Samuel Watson; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Joe Archer and Vernon Archer.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of West Terre Haute, where she had been a Sunday school teacher as well as various other church offices and also served as the church librarian for more than 40 years. Margaret loved to roller skate which she continued to do up to age 70. She also enjoyed participating in open 4-H projects for many years where she exhibited sewing projects and had shown animals in her younger years.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Augustus officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and prior to services Saturday.
