TERRE HAUTE —
Judy Jordan Akers, 67, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 6:56 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Nov. 27, 1945, in Terre Haute, to Edward Jordan and Connie Strawser Jordan. She retired from the Vigo County School Corporation, where she was employed as a cook for 13 years at West Vigo Elementary School in West Terre Haute. She later worked as a cook at MCL Restaurant in Terre Haute for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Akers, who passed away Jan. 21, 1986. Survivors include her three children, Penny Wheeler of Crown Point, Scott Akers and his wife Annie of Carlisle, and Beth Vermillion and her husband Brian of West Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren, Mike Wheeler, Billy Wheeler, Jessica Hayden, Jana Rogers, Josey Krabel, Myka Walls, Mercedes McCall, Payton McCall, Austin Vermillion, Dakota Vermillion, Isaac Vermillion, Reece Akers, Alia Akers, and Dusty Secrest; two great grandchildren, Adlyn Haga and Cooper Rogers; a sister, Shirley Christian of New Goshen; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Roach Hyde of West Terre Haute and Wilma Sellers of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Nelson Jordan; and a sister, Jeannie Jordan.
She enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, and especially spending time with her family.
Funeral services for Judy will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday.
