Nana Kay (Dalton) Hart

CLAY CITY — Nana Kay (Dalton) Hart, 72, of Clay City, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Kay was born in Greene County, Sept. 7, 1940, the daughter of Renous and Myrtle (Higar) Dalton. She graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1958. Following high school she graduated from Smart Appearance Beauty School and earned her beautician’s license. Kay spent much of her life serving the community as Harrison Township Trustee and Clay City Clerk Treasurer. She also volunteered at Southern Clay County Food pantry, where she served as director for several years and volunteered at Clay City Elementary in the kindergarten.

In addition to serving the community Kay enjoyed being a part of the “Breakfast Travel Club” and the Calico Quilters. She also enjoyed traveling to Disney World and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kay married Stanley V. Hart April 14, 1962.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Renous and Myrtle Dalton; husband, Stanley V. Hart; son-in-law, David Dickerson; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Schauwecker.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Dickerson and Della Hart, both of Clay City; a son, Stanley Brian and wife Patty of Clay City; family friend, Coleta Medlock of Clay City; grandchildren, Kendall Dickerson, Evan Dickerson, Jessica LeGrand, Stanley Dalton Hart, and Isabelle Hart; two great-granddaughters, Amira and Baylee; “daughter” Jennifer Reckerd and husband Keith of Brazil; three sisters, Margaret Mishler and husband Jim of Terre Haute, Irene Schauwecker of Clay City, and Cora Mae Moseman and husband Ron of Terre Haute; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Services will be held at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stanley Hart memorial fund C/O First Financial Bank 502 Main St., Clay City, IN 47841 or Clay City Elementary in memory of Kay Hart, 681 Lankford St., Clay City, IN 47841.
