Gerald J. Friedrich

Gerald J. Friedrich, 75, of Terre Haute, died in his home on Friday, August 30, 2013. He was born on March 3, 1938 in South Bend to Carl and Goldie Friedrich. Jerry was retired after a 38-year career with State Farm and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Friedrich.

Other survivors include three children, J.D Friedrich and his wife Corina of Terre Haute; Debra A. Johannson of Bloomington, Illinois; and David P. Friedrich and his wife Janet of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Ryan Friedrich, Erin Friedrich, Zachary Robbins and Austin Robbins all of Terre Haute, a brother, Donald DeVreese and his wife Alice of Jackson, TN; a sister, Charlotte Chearhart of Woodbury, MN; his mother-in-law, Alice Burke of Mishawaka; a brother-in-law, Edward Burke of Woodland City, CA; and his dogs, Casey and Callie. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Priscilla Hoath.

Jerry was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College and a member of St. Joseph University Parish. He was a board member of the Bethesda Elderly Housing Corporation, Bethesda Corp., Wabash Senior Citizens Housing Corporation and President of SOB. He was an avid woodworker and rough carpenter. He loved Notre Dame football and enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening and working around the house.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street with Friar Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 2, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute, 1801 Poplar Street, Terre Haute, IN 47803, or to the St. Joseph’s Samaritan Fund, c/o St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
