Howard T. Johnson, 88, of rural Jasonville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Sullivan County Community Hospital. Howard was born in Gilmore, on March 11, 1925, the son of the late Charles A. Johnson and Thelma R. (West) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was an avid fisherman, woodworker, euchre player, coin collector and mushroom hunter. Howard and Catherine wintered in Florida for 20 years until failing health prevented traveling. He retired from Pfizer in 1981 after 33 years of service and was a United States Marine veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Roger K. Johnson. Howard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine R. (Dickerson) Johnson; children, Paula (Don) Reed of Fort Wayne, Cathy (Bob) Gorby of Terre Haute, Nancy (Bob) Padgett of Jasonville and Derry D. Johnson of Bloomington. Other survivors include grandchildren, Anne (Ron) McRae, Chris (Fayeann) Reed, Gordon (Tammy) Reed, Amy Kreider, James (Jenny) Reed, Catherine (Allen) Arney, Erin McCammon, Rachel (Joe) Loeffel, Richard (Jenni) Johnson, Jessica (Jason) Bell, Audrey (Trent) Myers, and Emily (Matt) Mejean; and 23 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Lebanon Baptist Church 2 p.m., 6862 Indiana 59, Midland, with Mr. Bill Ansorge officiating.
