Roger H. Trainor Sr., 71, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 21, 1941, in Roanoke, Va., to Loney and Mabel Trainor. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Eli Lilly after 33 years of service as a mechanic. He was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church. Roger also was a member of the NRA, Peaceful Valley Hunt Club, and the Masons. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He will forever be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
Roger is survived by his daughters, Teresa Smith and Barbara Trainor and her companion James Pifer; sons, Roger H. Trainor Jr. and his wife Christy, and Jason Trainor; grandchildren, Daniel and Nicole Smith, and Tyler, Taylor, and Tara Trainor; great-grandchildren, Lydia Smith and Kierra Baker; brothers, L.B. Trainor and his wife Shiela, and John Trainor and his wife Carolyn; several nieces and nephews, and last, but not least, his two beloved dogs and constant companions, Buddy and Boy.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Peggy; a son, Paul Trainor; grandson, Noah Baker; and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy McPike officiating. Burial will take place in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rosedale Baptist Church.
