Charles “Chuck” Decker, 86, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of New Goshen, passed away Sept. 24, 2013, in Gilbert, Ariz. He was born July 24, 1927, in Dayton, Ohio, to Earl and Nadine Decker. Chuck joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, after graduating from high school. He served from 1945-49 on many different ships in the Pacific Region during the end of World War II. He returned to attend barber college and began barbering in New Goshen, opening Chuck’s Barber Shop in 1952. He and his family moved to Mesa in 1976, where he opened the Mr. Mesa Barber Shop and continued barbering until his retirement in 1993.
Chuck enjoyed his retirement by keeping busy building a family vacation home in Heber, Ariz., pitching horseshoes and making silver jewelry. He was a life-long baseball fan, playing in his younger years and holding season tickets for the Cubs Spring Training during recent years. Chuck was an active member of Heber/Overgaard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 86, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Elaine Decker; one daughter, Jane (Glen) Messacar of Tempe, Ariz.; one son, Mike (Laurie) Decker of Gold Canyon, Ariz; and four grandchildren, Jordan (Mike) Rogatchev, Hayden Messacar, Michael (Devon) Decker, and Christopher Decker.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. MST Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W. Juniper Ave., Gilbert, Ariz. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 1st United Methodist Church of Gilbert, 331 S. Cooper Road, in Gilbert. Interment will be at Valley of the Sun Memorial Park, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, in Chandler, Ariz., following services. For additional information please visit:
