MONTEZUMA — Betty Irene Hale Jorritsma, 83, of Montezuma, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in her residence. She retired from both the Vigo County School Corporation and Garden Grove (Calif.) School district. She was born July 28, 1930, in Terre Haute, to the late William J. Hale and Lora Bailey Hale.
Her husband of 60 years, Harmon Sietze Jorritsma, whom she married Dec. 23, 1951, preceded her in death July 15, 2012. Survivors include two daughters, Debi Parkam of Montezuma, and Tina (Neal) Allee of Bloomingdale, Ind.; three grandchildren, Natalia VanDuyn of Indianapolis, Terin Allee of Lafayette, and Dalen Allee of Virginia; two nephews, Dale (Carla) Bishop of Washington State and Dennis Bishop of Springfield, Ill.. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Hale and Mary Hale Bishop.
She was a graduate of Otter Creek High School and attended the Terre Haute Commercial College. She was a member of Linebarger Chapel United Methodist Church and Crystal Cathedral of Garden Grove, California. She was a round dancing teacher with her husband for more than 40 years. She traveled with her husband during his military career living in Germany for two years. She enjoyed entertaining her family, friends and neighbor’s playing cards and dominos.
Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, in Rockville, with the Rev. Leon Myers officiating. Inurnment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in North Terre Haute. Memorial visitation is 10 a.m. until services on Saturday at the funeral home.
