Elizabeth F. (Whalen) Christopher

BRAZIL — BRAZIL — Elizabeth “Betty” F. (Whalen) Christopher, 77, of Brazil, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, Dec. 11, 2013, following a battle with cancer. Betty was born in Terre Haute, Feb. 22, 1936, the daughter of John and Helen (Quist) Whalen. Betty graduated from Gerstmeyer High School with the class of 1954. While in high school, she was voted the Junior Class Prom Queen. Betty studied to be an X-Ray Technician at Indiana State Teachers College. She also worked for Indiana State University Credit Union for several years.

Betty was a devoted mother and often put others before herself. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved having family gatherings. She also enjoyed bowling and traveling. Betty was a member of the Red Hat Society, where she had served as Queen.  

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two siblings, Helen Wise and Ricky Whalen. Betty is survived by her husband, Glen Christopher of Brazil; three sons, Thomas Robert Wilkinson Jr. and wife Charlotte of Brazil, Jerry Joseph Wilkinson and wife Sherry of Brazil, and Timothy Patrick Wilkinson of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Jason Wilkinson and wife Tricia of Whitestown, Ryan Wilkinson of Staunton, Nicole Romas and husband Matt of Terre Haute, Troy Wilkinson and wife Brooke of Staunton, Aaron Wilkinson of Prairieton, Autumn Wilkinson of Bloomington, Ind., Ashley French and husband Michael of Merom, and Lindsey Wilkinson of Sullivan; seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle Romas, Alexandria Romas, Carter Wilkinson, Violet Wilkinson, Parker Richardson, Molly Richardson, and Jamison Wilkinson; a sister, Jacqueline Hickman of Charleston, Ill.; and a brother, John Whalen Jr. and wife Eileen of Terre Haute; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., in Brazil, Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Tom Hess officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4 p.m. until time of services. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Betty’s memory, to a charity of your choice. Visit to light a candle in her memory.
