CARLISLE — Thomas H. Gofourth, 89, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at The Watters of Greencastle. He was born in Crawford County, Ind., March 6, 1924, the son of George W. Gofourth and Susie Jane Stephens Gofourth. Thomas was a World War II Navy veteran, an oil driller for 29 years, also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Daisy Marie Alexander Gofourth; a son, Roy E. Gofourth; and several siblings.
He is survived by one son, George Gofourth (Sara) of Paxton; three daughters, Jeanne Marie Chubb (Lonnie) of Baker, La., Susie Alsman (Brad) of Paxton, and Linda Jane Gofourth of Sullivan; 11 grandchildren, Jesse, Janel, Candy, Suzzanne, Michael, Tammy, Trina, Tiffany, Thomas, Patrick, and James; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, 400 N. Court St., in Sullivan, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery in Paxton, with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
