Harold Eugene (Gene) Shelton, 68, of Paxton, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his residence, after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 8, 1945, the son of Frank L. Shelton and Wilma F. Lynn Shelton. He owned and operated Paxton Food Center for 20 years, and worked 13 years at Riggs Hardware in Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Christina Jo Shelton; one granddaughter; Alexis Jo Shelton Klaiber; and a sister, Garnet Shelton.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Diana K. Wallace Shelton, whom he married Sept. 13, 1980; two daughters, Stephanie Hinderscheit (Ray) of Belle Plaine, Minn., and Lori Shelton of Dugger; two sons, Brian Eugene Shelton (Jennifer Turpin) of Evansville, and Bryan Wayne Shelton (Kryslin) of Dugger; three stepchildren, Owen Clifford of Sandborn, Kevin Clifford (Shana) of Odon, and Christina Stewart (Patrick) of Brooksville, Fla.; two brothers, Marvin Shelton (Margret), and Archie Shelton (Joanne), all of Sullivan; one sister, Evelyn Hendrix of Sullivan; seven grandchildren, Autumn, Amanda, Michaela, Dakota, Macey, Isaiah, and Kyran; stepgrandchildren, Zack, Michaela, Nicole, Jezika, Elizabeth, Bradley, Abby, Katie, Torie, Aazskel, and Ahzstin; and three great-grandchildren, Kryslynn, Kyrstin, and Matthew.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Banks and Brust Funeral Home, in Sullivan, with Brother J.B. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Providence Cemetery, in Paxton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and before services Thursday.
