PRAIRIE CREEK — Kenneth C. Farris, 78, of Prairie Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Kenny was a retired postmaster for Prairie Creek and a farmer. He was born Oct. 14, 1934, in rural Vigo County, to Emmett Farris and Lenora (McClanahan) Farris.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Bonnie (Porter) Farris, whom he married March 7, 1948; sons, Ron Farris and his wife Katrina of Terre Haute and Lenny Farris and his wife Annamaria of Cambria, Ill.; daughters, Keni Jane Farris of Prairie Du Rocher, Ill., and Vickie Farris of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Kasey Marie, Noah Thomas, and Sarah Anna, all of Cambria, and Willow Farris of Terre Haute; stepgrandchildren, Kayla Bowling, and Jessica and Gabe Donnenhoffer, all of Terre Haute; many special and cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Farris of Brazil and Mona Porter of Illinois; and brother-in-law, Gary Cook of Ohio. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas, Robert, Edgar, and Willie; and sisters, Pauline Robertson, Wanda Ligget, Juanita Farris, and Beulah Farris.
Kenny was active in his younger days as a 4-H member, teaching Sunday School class and as a high school basketball player. He also served a trustee of West Lawn Cemetery in Prairie Creek and as a rural mail carrier for the Farmersburg/Fairbanks area, and he also worked as a police/security officer. Kenny’s love was farming as well as his family and the customer’s at the Prairie Creek Post Office.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Prairie Creek with funeral services at 2 p.m. in the church with Pastor Kevin Dobson officiating.
