Alice Jean Baird


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — June 12, 1931 – March 21, 2014

Alice Jean Baird, 82, of Woodbridge, Va., died at home surrounded by her family on March 21, 2014. There was a bedside service held in her honor. She was born Alice Jean Clark, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Christine O. and Newton Clark, along with siblings Dorothy Tobey of Fort Worth, Texas, Marilyn Jones of Brookville, Md., Elaine Blade of Richmond, Va., and Rosemary Kyle, Jack Clark and Eddie Clark, all of Terre Haute. A 1949 graduate of Garfield High School, in Terre Haute, she was also a cheerleader.

In addition to her brothers and sisters, she is survived by her three sons, Michael (Shirley) Baird of Shirley, W.Va., Jeffrey Baird of Fort Worth, and David (Kari) Baird of Georgetown, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orval “Jiggs” Baird; and her daughter-in-law, Gale Turner Baird, the wife of Jeffrey Baird.

Alice Jean was an avid sports watcher and a lifelong Washington Redskins fan.

At the appropriate time, there will be a graveside service at the Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on her behalf to any non-profit hospice or COPD association. Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., in Woodbridge, Va., assisted with arrangements.
