Linda L. Bland

TERRE HAUTE — Linda L. Bland, 69, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Friday afternoon, March 22, 2013. She was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Robert and Geraldine (Coates) Chester, and attended Gerstmeyer High School.

Linda loved fishing, bingo, and especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are four children, James Phifer Jr. of Oklahoma, Mark Phifer of Terre Haute, Madonna Fields of Brazil, and Maurice Taggart Jr. of Terre Haute; two stepchildren, Sherry Bland of Terre Haute, and Jeff Bland of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kayla Taggart, Harley Marshall Jr., Madison Taggart, Jessica Gray, Brandi Sims, Joshua Fields, and Ashley Fields; three brothers, Larry Chester (wife, Betty) of Muncie, Bill Chester (wife, Helen) of Massachusetts, and John Auten (wife, Kathy) of Muncie; her sister, Sharon Butts of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend, Mart Waggoner of Terre Haute.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Chester; her mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Ernest Auten; and her husband, Ronnie Bland.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, 415 E. Washington St., in Muncie. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 1 p.m. until services Thursday. Online condolences may be sent to the family at:
