TERRE HAUTE —
Francis M. Slaven was born in Terre Haute, on Aug. 7, 1912, to Frank Miller Wilson (deceased) and Myrtle Elle Stevens Wilson (deceased). She entered Heaven's gates on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
A mother and homemaker, Francis enjoyed her family and friends and never met a stranger. Francis had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Higher Ground Church, in Terre Haute, where she was very involved and loved to sing. The last two years she lived in Monticello, with her daughter and attended Calvary Temple church. Her giving spirit and eagerness to share her love for Jesus quickly integrated her in the church and community.
Francis was married to Charlie William “Bill” Slaven, Aug. 22, 1928. He preceded her in death, 1972.
She was one of 15 children. Surviving siblings are her brothers, Archie Wilson and Leroy Wilson, both of Terre Haute, and sister, Catherine Sinclair, Rosedale.
She had six children, James (Murietta) Slaven, Lafayette, Robert (Eileen, daughter-in-law deceased) Slaven, LaGrange, Quince (son deceased) wife, the Rev. Mary Slaven, Terre Haute, Marilyn Schaffer (the Rev. J.L. Schaffer, son-in-law, deceased), Monticello. Joyce Ridge (daughter, deceased) son-in-law, Bill Ridge, Terre Haute, and William “Billy” (Edie) Slaven, Tampa, Fla.; 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, for viewing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a celebration of her life will begin at 1 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave., Terre Haute. Funeral will be officiated by Joe Mattox. Burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery
