Gerald Lee ‘Jerry’ Keyes

TERRE HAUTE — Gerald Lee “Jerry” Keyes, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Union Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Terre Haute, to Spencer and Pearl (Badger) Keyes. He graduated in 1949 from Otter Creek High School. After graduation, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Germany for the majority of his military career. After serving his country, Jerry spent the next 58 years as a union electrician. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, a member of American Legion Krietenstein Post 104, Moose Lodge 1009, a 50-year member of William Penn Lodge 727, Shriners International, and Terre Haute German Oberlandler’s Club. He served his community by giving 32 years to the Township Advisory Board.

Jerry lived life to the fullest and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. His family was convinced that there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

Jerry enjoyed fishing and traveling. He cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for the smile that always lit up his face.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gail (Dyer) Keyes, whom he married on Nov. 3, 1996; daughters, Desiree Limkeman and husband Tim of Joplin, Mo., Anita Moore and husband Alan of Rockville and their children Alexis, Avery, and Addison, and Renee Wetnight of Terre Haute and her children Austin and Lanee; sons, Jerry Wayne Keyes of Terre Haute and his children Jase (Crystal) and  their daughter Abigail; and Jayme, and Kalen and their mother Kim; Cory (Erika) Jackson and their baby due this month; in-laws, Betty Keyes of Bridgeton, Judy Keyes of Rosedale, David and Bekki Dyer of Terre Haute, Eugene and Dixie Waggoner of Spencer, and Randy Dyer of Clay City; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Harriett; daughter, Amber (Keyes) Rowoth; son-in-law, Brian Rowoth; grandson, Kurt Keyes; and brothers, Bill Fawley, Joseph Keyes, and Dale Keyes.

Per Jerry’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Please join the family at the Celebration of Life dinner at Maryland Community Church on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Terre Haute North Little League, 4212 E. Park Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47805; Moose Lodge 1009, 3708 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803; of Terre Haute German Oberlandler Club, 1616 Lafayette Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804.
