Martha ‘Ruthie’ Cowden

On this day of Nov. 26, 2013, Martha “Ruthie” Cowden went to be with the Lord after passing away at Union Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Martha was a homemaker that never knew a stranger, and loved her family dearly. Martha will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She was born in Terre Haute, on Jan. 2, 1945, to Anna Louise McCullough and was adopted and raised by mother and daddy, Martha Hiatt and Stephen Hiatt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Martha Schoffstall. She is survived by her loving husband and soul mate of 50 years, Mike Cowden; one daughter, Michelle (Shelly) McCollum and husband David; and one son, Michael Cowden Jr. and wife Megan. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Chelsea Hollingsworth, Darrell Orman III, David McCollum Jr., Audra Cowden, Brittany and Megan; as well as great-grandchildren, Jesiah, Noah, Maddilynn, and Kenydi. Other survivors include a sister, Edna Fry and husband Earl; and brothers, Stephen Hiatt and wife MaryLou, Jim and wife Cheryl, Terry, Ronnie, and Tim and wife Angie; as well as several special nieces and nephews; and one very close friend, Shelda.  

Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Paul Del Valley officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for today, Nov. 29, 2013. from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Online condolences may be left at:
