Loretta Kurzendoerfer

EVANSVILLE — Loretta Kurzendoerfer, 84, of Elk City, Okla., formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at home in Elk City, Okla.

Loretta was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of the late Joseph Vincent Vaal and Laura Barbara (Shuler) Vaal.

She was a member of St. Matthew’s parish in Elk City, Okla., for the past five years, and before that attended church at Sts. Peter and Paul in Haubstadt and Holy Cross in Fort Branch, Ind. She was an avid reader, and loved quilting and working crossword puzzles. She worked at the Luggage Shop, Stippler Tool and Supply, and Ohio Valley Sound. Most recently she was a volunteer for Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Okla.

She is survived by her children, Laura Kurzendoerfer; Dennis Kurzendoerfer and wife, Kathy; Daniel Kurzendoerfer and wife, Barbara; Stephen Kurzendoerfer and wife, Cheryl; Mark Kurzendoerfer; Susan Cummings and husband, Darrell; Bryan Kurzendoerfer and wife, Rebecca; Janet Kirchner and husband, Joseph; and Karen Wilson; sisters Mary Elizabeth Menner; Pat Peck and husband, Tom; and Kathleen Meyer and husband, Richard; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; and daughter, Marianne Kurzendoerfer.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, Ind., officiated by Father Tony Ernst. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Mausoleum, Evansville, where Loretta’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law will assist as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Boone Funeral Home — East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville, where a rosary service will take place at 7 p.m.
