According to family and friends, Vera was one of the best cooks in the world. Prior to becoming a cook, she had been a nurse’s aide and caregiver at the former Vigo County Home in Terre Haute for several years. She was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Terre Haute to Ernest Chesshir and Edith Schoffstall Chesshir. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Brandon Creasey.

Vera loved to go fishing and spending time with her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with her eulogy and other comments being given by family members. Visitation will be noon until service time Sunday. According to Vera’s wishes, cremation has been arranged. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Vera Creasey memorial fund to assist with expenses with envelopes available in the funeral home. Following the services at the funeral home, the family and friends will be gathering at the Country Roads Café/Four Seasons Banquet Hall, 1001 W. National Ave., in West Terre Haute, for a meal and fellowship and further celebration of Vera’s life. Online condolences may be made at:
