Joy Ann Grover

TERRE HAUTE — Joy Ann Grover, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away on Oct. 5, 2013, at I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Clinton, to George and Susan Grover, who preceded her in death. Joy lived in Rockville, in her youth and graduated from Rockville High School in 1956. She attended Terre Haute Commercial College before beginning her working career.

Joy was a secretary at Mineweld Corporation and Smith-Alsop Corporation. She was the executive secretary to the Sales Manager at M.A.B. Paints for 34 years. She was actively involved in the yearly sales meetings, where she assisted both the sales and advertising departments. Even though Joy didn't have a large family of her own, she had good friends who “adopted” her. For the Watkins, Smithhart and Artis families, she was an important member of their fold and active in family events. Her “secret garden” in the backyard was magnificent in the springtime. She loved her dogs, first Tootsie Nipper, then Madison, playing with them and steering them around the flowers. She loved to feed the birds, and fed the squirrels by hand. The only thing she didn't like about her yard was raking the leaves in the fall. Joy accepted the Lord and sought to live her life for Him. She attended Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Joy will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a great friend, and truly cared about all her friends and colleagues. A portion of the poem, "Miss Me, But Let Me Go" reflects her beliefs: “When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little – but not too long, and not with your head bowed low; remember the love that we once shared. Miss me, but let me go”.

Per Joy's wishes, cremation has been chosen, with no services. Her request has been honored, and her ashes will be buried at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rockville Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 10 a.m. Friends and neighbors are invited to attend a graveside service. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at: www.greinerfuneralhome.com.
