Roy L. Allaway

Roy L. Allaway, of Terre Haute and of Jasonville, went home to walk the streets of gold and to really worship his Lord and Savior on Oct. 31, 2013.

Born Aug. 28, 1933, in Greene County, he was the seventh child of Clyde and Radie Allaway, and stepson of Ben H. Edmonson — all deceased. He married Evelyn “Sis” Allaway on June 11, 1960, who went to her new life in Christ on June 4, 2008.

Roy was a retired trainer and safety supervisor for Peabody Coal, and had worked for Public Service Indiana as a sales representative in Terre Haute and Clinton. He was a past Jasonville volunteer fire fighter, past justice of the peace, editor of Bloomfield Evening World, owner of Jasonville Shoppers Guide, worked for Indiana State Highway as a tester and held other sales jobs and construction work.

He was a Marine sergeant and held a master’s degree from Indiana State University.

He attended First Church of Nazarene, where he taught Kumjoynus Class. He also taught at Briley Chapel and Calvary Temple. He was president of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship in Terre Haute for some five years. He was a member of the Jasonville American Legion Post 172, a hospice volunteer, an occasional speaker at churches and centers and a Women’s Aglow advisor. He also enjoyed visiting friends and Christians in homes and hospitals. He enjoyed helping people to “cope” with life’s problems, and he was active in the “Little David” ministry, helping homeless boys to find success in life; involved in prison ministry; a past member of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce; a past member of the Elks, Eagles, and Lions clubs; and also a Boy Scout advisor early in his life.

He was also active in the American Heart Association and was involved with the American Cancer Society. He was also a certified emergency medical technician.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia LeClercq and husband Earl, and Shirley Padgett and husband Phil; a brother-in-law, Jim Martin and wife Lynn from Texas; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins; and a friend, Carolyn.

Two highlights of his life were a trip to Israel and El Shaddai Emmaus Walk, both bringing a closer walk with his Lord.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two stepsons, one stepdaughter, four sisters, two brothers and his parents. He leaves you with this thought: “To know what is right and not do it is as bad as doing wrong.”

A special thanks to Providence Health Care Center and Dr. Karki.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to McMillan Adult Day Care.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, in Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St., with the Rev. Mark Fleschner officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg. Online condolences may be left at:
