James Richard ‘Dick’ Stewart

TERRE HAUTE — James Richard “Dick” Stewart, 67, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in the Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis. Dick was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Terre Haute, to Wayne and Dorothy Hagan Stewart. Dick was a graduate of Schulte High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana State University. He spent his career as a business manager and property procurement manager for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Dick was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, as well as a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Sycamore Club, Prison Retirees Club, Marine Corps League and the St. Ben’s Soup Kitchen.

He loved sports of any kind, especially watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins, but most of all he loved his family, with a special place in his heart being reserved for his wonderful grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Yocum. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Milburn Stewart; one son, Brian Stewart; and his wife Carrie of Terre Haute; three daughters, Sharon Taylor and her husband Michael of Arlington, Texas; Catherine Scott and her husband Cliff of Pomfret, Md.; and Amanda Heincer and her husband Liam of Springfield, Va.; one brother, Lawrence Stewart and his wife Nancy of Jacksonville, N.C.; and one sister, Judy McDaniel and her husband Mike of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Kyle and Kasey Stewart; Myka, Jakob and Fallon Taylor; and A.J. and Colton Scott, as well as many other friends, family and loved ones.

Services for Dick will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church, 2322 N. 13 1/2 St., Terre Haute, with Father Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 14, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, with a rosary service to be conducted by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family wishes that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Knights of Columbus or the St. Jude Children’s Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home.
