WEST TERRE HAUTE —
Cecil B. Tackett, 86, of West Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in his residence. He had been a security guard for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, where he served as captain of security for over 20 years. He also had been employed with Union Hospital for 20 years. He was born March 10, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to William Monroe Tackett and Myrtle Alfa Willis Tackett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathleen Downey Tackett, on June 25, 1979. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Onalee and Bernie Myles of Terre Haute; his companion of 17 years, Pat Randolph of West Terre Haute; his loving twin brother, Charlie Tackett of West Terre Haute and brother, Danny McKinney of Terre Haute; three sisters, Ruth Salyer McKinney and Bessie Munds, both of Tampa, Fla., and Virginia Wardle and her husband Bob of New Goshen; a grandson, Tony King and his wife Rachael of Smithville, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Donald McKinney.
Cecil had lost his left arm in an accident at age 14, but he never let it be a handicap or disability as he continued through his life and work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman which he continued to do until the last few years.
Funeral services for Cecil will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time Sunday.
