Gary Dennis Burgess

Gary Dennis Burgess, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, surrounded by his family in his residence. He was born Dec. 3, 1946, in Princeton, to Roy Burgess and Dorothy (Sutton) Burgess. Gary was manager of the Myers Building at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he has been employed for 36 years, and has received the President’s Award and the Alumni Award. He also had been the owner of Burgess Marine for 20 years.

Gary is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Pellizzari) Burgess; daughters, Heather Farrior and husband Joshua, and Kelly Tull and husband Adam; son, Dennis Neal Burgess and wife Holly; sisters, Marcia Coffey and husband Gale, and Sherry Littrell and husband Paul; brothers, Jerry Burgess and wife Connie, and Barry Burgess and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, Holden Burgess and Julius Burgess; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War aboard the USS America CVA-66. He also was a member of Methodist Temple and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, where he served as Housing Corporation president for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Larry Burgess.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., and on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Funeral services will then follow at 1:30 p.m., with his brother, Barry Burgess officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors being provided by Lawton-Byrum Post 972 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Lung Cancer Foundation of America, 15 S.
