Helen H. Polzin, 94, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Evanston, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, in Union Hospital. Helen was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Cayuga, to Charles Hosford and Etta Kearn Hosford. She was retired from Shell Oil Company and Calumet and Heckla, as well as assisting her husband in his private law practice where he was a patent attorney.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, Fort Dearborn Chapter DAR, Northwestern University and The Art Institute of Chicago. She enjoyed attending art exhibits, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and performances at Hatfield Hall on the Rose-Hulman campus after moving to Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Polzin, who passed away March 15, 1999.
She is survived by a niece, Bunny Nash of Terre Haute; three nephews, Steve Nash of Shelbyville, Dick Nash of Concord N.C., and Mark Hosford of North Carolina; two cousins, Roberta Maudlin of Cissna Park, Ill., and Christine Boyd of Danville, Ill.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. CDT Friday, March 15, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, in Rock Island, Ill. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to The Frist Presbyterian Church of Evanston, Northwestern University Guild or the Art Institute of Chicago.
